Groundbreaking News – Rope Mill Road Interchange

One step closer to the beginning phase of construction at the Rope Mill Road Interchange!

The City of Woodstock held a ground breaking ceremony on Tuesday, October 26, at the future site of the full diamond interchange on 575. This project has been in the works in one shape or another since 1975. Through many countless hours of work by city employees, state representatives, citizens, volunteers, and engineers we are now closing in to the final months leading up to construction. Dirt should be turning by the end of the year late December, early January.

The full diamond at Rope Mill Road has been a long time coming. Rated as one of the top tier projects in the state for it’s high impact on traffic, economic development, regional traffic congestion allieviation, regional economic impact, and low cost relative to those categories. Crossing some incredible hurdles and setbacks for many years, we can now put this on our calendar!

The current issues we as a city, and as county residents face is the upcoming election. Without the current SPLOST this project would be sitting in a drawer and still on a list of pie in the sky ideas with no funding. The city was able to use funding with the county to purchase the right of way possible to move this project to the front of the list in the DOT’s transportation plan improvement schedule.

Thank you to all of those that were involved in helping make this a reality. Included in the following pictures are:

Senator Chip Rogers, State Representative Sean Jerguson, Charlice Byrd, County Commissioners Buzz Ahrens, Jason Nelms, DOT Representative Brandon Beech, Mayor Donnie Henriques, Councilman Randy Brewer, City Manager Jeff Moon, Woodstock DDA Chair Jimmy Long, Croy Engineering and CW Mathews representatives.

Special thanks to Representative Sean Jerguson and Senator Chip Rogers for their constant support on making this a priority project!
